Chemistry 104
GENERAL CHEMISTRY
Chapter 16 -- Key Concepts
- Determine the reaction quotient for any reaction.
- Manipulate reaction quotients to determine the equilibrium
constants for reactions in the reverse direction, with different
stoichiometric coefficients, or for different, related reactions.
- Given information on the equilibrium constant and the quantity of reactants and products predict the direction of the reaction.
- Given Kc, determine Kp and vice versa (be able to derive the relationship).
- Use the "ICE" process to determine various quantities relating to the equilibrium composition of a system.
- Calculate K from information about the equilibrium composition of a system.
- Understand changes in reaction quotients which occur when a system is heterogeneous.
- Determine when approximations may be justifiably used in equilibrium calculations.
- Understand the effect of changing the amounts of reactants and/or products on the equilibrium composition of the system and perform related calculations
- Understand the effect of changing the pressure, volume and/or
temperature on the equilibrium composition of the system and perform related calculations.
- Use percent decomposition in calculations.
