Why does the synthesis of additional hemoglobin molecules
increase oxygen delivery to tissues?
An increase in the concentration of hemoglobin itself will also shift
the equilibrium towards products (oxygen bound to hemoglobin). This
increase is the body's only method to increase oxygen delivery to the
tissues when the partial pressure of oxygen is significantly lower
than at sea level.
