First lab experiment (Expt 2: What Anions Are In Your Drinking Water?) is in two weeks.  To prepare

·       Read all of the experiment in the manual.

·       Prepare your lab notebook - Purpose, Procedure, Data

o      Read the lab manual introduction (pp. iv-vii) for general help

o      See p.2-6 for specific information about preparing for Expt 2

o      Aim to summarize the procedure rather than to transfer every little detail to the notebook

§       e.g., compare lab manual Expt 2 Part A procedure to this summary:  Place drinking water samples in chromatography tubes, add filter caps, and chromatograph using an anion exchange column and carbonate/bicarbonate eluent.

o      Follow data table suggestions provided on p.2-6

·       Read and think about Making a Dilution on p.2-8.

·       Read and think about Writing Your Report on pp.2-10 to 2-12. Come to class with questions about what is required in the report.

o      A short intermediate report is due one day after you complete the Week 1 work of this two week experiment.

o      The remainder of the report is due one day after completing the Week 2 work.
