What Do I Need To Know About Lab During The
First Week of Classes (Before Lab Classes Start)? |
When Do Labs Meet? |
Lab sections meet M/Tu/W/Th from 1-4 and, if
enrollment is high, Tu/Th from 10-1. You attend laboratory once a week for
the semester on the day you select during registration. |

How Do I Choose Or Change My Lab Section? |
See the Lab
Sign Up page. |
Where Do Labs Meet? |
The class begins with a short lab lecture held in
Room 278, and all lab work is performed in Room 182. View a map of the General
Chemistry Laboratory and Classrooms. |
Who Teaches The Lab? |
Your work in the laboratory is supervised by a
teaching assistant (graduate student or senior chemistry major) and Dr.
Lukacs. |
How Much Time Does Lab Take? |
Your laboratory class itself meets 3 hours each
week. Most students say that they need an additional 3 hours per week to write
reports and to prepare for the upcoming experiment. |

What Do I Need To Do To Prepare For The First
Lab Class? |
Be sure to attend orientation during the first
week of classes for information on how to prepare for lab. You will need a lab manual, lab notebook, lab
safety goggles; these items are all available at the BMC bookshop. Read the introduction to the lab
manual. Here you will find information about working safely in lab, keeping a
lab notebook, and writing a report. Prepare your lab notebook for the first
experiment (not necessarily Experiment 1). Check the syllabus on the first
page of the lab manual or via the Gen Chem Lab Home Page. |
