Precambrian granitic and amphibolite gneiss.

Dark bands are amphibolite - composed of the minerals amphibole / biotite mica

Light pink zones are granite - composed of quartz / potassium feldspar / muscovite mica

To the left of the hammer is a small fold in the amphibolite. The amphibolite retains folds and other qualities of metamorphic rocks, whereas the granite appears to have crystallized from a melt, i.e. is of igneous origin.
