The Distressing Math Collective

Thursdays, 8-10 PM
Room 328 Park Science Center, BMC

Are you:
Do you:
  • interested in distressing, interesting mathematics?
  • know who shaves the barber in a town where the barber shaves all people who don't shave themselves?
  • bothered that you were told .999... = 1?
  • think it seems reasonable that not all infinities are equal--that some infinite sets are bigger than others are?
  • The Distressing Math Collective (DMC) is a group of Bryn Mawr and Haverford students who get together to talk and learn about distressing and neat mathematics. We explore interesting paradoxes and look at some areas of mathematics that we haven't seen in classes. The exact focus of the group really depends on the interests of the students who come to the meetings. So come tell us what your interests are!!!!

For the past two years, the meetings have been a lot of fun, filled with both interesting math and a lot of silliness. We usually end the meetings by playing a very challengin (but easy to learn) card game.

    Refreshments will be served
(We can't talk about math without food!)
