Electronic Reserves

The library provides a scanning service to faculty for articles and book chapters intended for use on Blackboard electronic course reserves.  We will upload the files to Blackboard, or return files directly to the requesting faculty.

HELPFUL BLACKBOARD TIPS for faculty and students

FIRST-TIME USERS please read the Faculty Reserves Handbook thoroughly before submitting requests.

ARCHIVED COURSES are only available in Blackboard for three semesters prior (for example, in Spring 08 you have access to Fall 06 - Fall 07). Please email Melissa Kramer to request restoration of older materials.

NEXT SEMESTER'S DEADLINE is January 7th, 2008.

SUBMIT photocopied articles or chapters, or links to electronic resources to Melissa Kramer.  Leave all materials in the bin marked "New Blackboard Scanning" on the counter to your right when you enter the building.  Fill out a pink form for new scanning requests, and a yellow form to request previously scanned materials.  [Download a Scanning Submission Form]

WE ACCEPT ONLY clear, readable, high-quality and complete photocopies.  Bound journals and books will not be accepted.  A course syllabus or dated reading list is required.

TURNAROUND TIME is two weeks for scanning and uploading to Blackboard.  Scanning only (files returned directly to faculty) is completed within a week.  Readings may be added throughout the semester.  To ensure that all readings are available by the start of the semester, requests must be received at least four working weeks before the first day of classes.

OUR COPYRIGHT POLICY is firm:

  • Do NOT present more than 15% of the total content of a book or journal issue.
  • Canaday Library will assist in obtaining copyright permission when needed.
  • Materials will not be placed on reserve for more than one semester in any given year without obtaining the copyright -holder's permission.
  • All use of materials placed on electronic reserves will be solely at the initiative of faculty and solely for the non-commercial educational usage of students.
  • Audio visual materials placed on reserve must be legally acquired in compliance with United States copyright laws. The Library will accept videocassettes that are owned by the tri-college libraries or by faculty, students, or other agents of the Colleges. Personal copies will be returned at the end of the course.

ACCESS electronic reserves via Blackboard.
