"Education is transformative. When I came to Bryn Mawr, I wasn't thinking of teaching or working with schools. Look how much I have changed."

"It started at a summer institute sponsored by the Mellon-Mays Undergraduate Fellowship. One of the professors talked about education as a form of social justice. That really resonated with me. I started working with students in Philadelphia's public schools, and then in Rwanda, with Global Youth Connect. Now I want to get a graduate degree in education and start a nonprofit organization where teachers can talk about educational strategies that work. Since I've received a national Truman scholarship, those goals seem very real."

Note: "I've fallen in love with Philadelphia. The city's young people are so full of creativity and energy. We need to harness that power."
