Continuing-education students may take a maximum of one graduate course per semester and have the choice of auditing courses or taking them for transferrable academic credit.
Most graduate courses have prerequisites, and continuing-education students will need permission from the instructor to enroll.
Students cannot earn a degree from the College through the Continuing Education Program. If a continuing-education student wishes to matriculate as a graduate student, s/he must apply to the GSAS. Courses taken by continuing-education students at the graduate level are not automatically accepted for credit towards the M.A. or Ph.D. if the student later matriculates in the Graduate School of Arts and Sciences. With the approval of their graduate advisors, matriculated students may request that a maximum of two units taken as continuing-education courses be accepted as transfer credit by the GSAS. All such requests are reviewed by the Graduate Council for approval. Documentation by the instructor that the student's work met the criteria for graduate credit may be required.
