Any student who is a citizen of a country other than the U.S. and any student who is not a U.S. permanent resident is considered to be an international student. Bryn Mawr also acknowledges the unique experience of U.S. citizens who live abroad. Information geared toward international students may be of help to U.S. citizens abroad. One important distinction between an international student and a U.S. citizen living abroad is the financial assistance for which she is eligible.
An international applicant to Bryn Mawr should have completed an American-type high school or an academic secondary school program that qualifies her for university entrance in her own country. Fluency in English is essential, since Bryn Mawr has no formal program in English as a Second Language (ESL).
If not attending an American-style high school, applicants should be prepared to send Bryn Mawr a copy of the examination results (including grades received in each subject) that qualify her for admission to university in her own country. Examples of such exams include: Cambridge "0" and "A" levels, International Baccalaureate, Bachillerato, Abitur, etc. Exam results should be sent to Bryn Mawr along with the required application materials.
SAT or ACT
All applicants to Bryn Mawr must submit the results of the SAT I or the ACT. The SAT exams are waived for residents of the People's Republic of China where the test is not available. Two SAT Subject tests are recommended but not required for those students living abroad. If you would like more information about the SAT test, please see http://www.collegeboard.com/
* Please note that these exams are only given on selected dates each month. Students should sit for the exam well in advance and no later than one month prior to the application deadline.
TOEFL
If English is not a student's first language, she must submit the results of the TOFEL examination (Test of English as a Foreign Language.) This requirement can be waived for students whose principal language of instruction for the past four years has been English. The Admissions Committee will consider a minimum TOFEL score of 600 on the paper test or 250 on the computer test. If you would like information about the TOEFL test, please see the TOEFL web site at: http://www.toefl.org/
NOTE : Bryn Mawr College will also accept a score of "7" or above on IELTS exam for demonstration of English language proficiency
