Cover photographs by Will Brown. Front: Apache (?) Moccasins, Gift of George and Anna Vaux, Bryn Mawr College Collections. Moccasins for a child or young adult are made of leather dyed yellow with tin jangles.

Back: Zuni Katchina Doll, Gift of Milton Nahm, Bryn Mawr College Collections. Katchina art is an ancient tradition that predates Spanish occupation of the American southwest. Katchinas have a tribal function for the Zuni, as they do for the Hopi people, who also make Katchina dolls and masks.
