Black Alumnae/i Conference

Reconnect, Renew, Relate, Re-Engage
October 24–26, 2008

Come back to celebrate our memories as students. Come back and give back to current black students. Share from the reservoir of your experience so they may benefit as they strive to succeed in careers and life.

As we look back over the years, we can recall friends, a Sisterhood and college staff that sustained us through the struggles, tears, laughter, and academic trials and triumphs. Bryn Mawr is still a beautiful, tucked away campus with historic ivy-covered dorms and classroom facilities. A number of new buildings and renovations have transformed student life on campus, including the Multi-Cultural Center, the Athletic Fitness Center, bookstore, café, etc. Come and see for yourself.

Key features of the Conference will include:

  • Time to re-engage with each other and catch up on old times.
  • Time to honor the historical legacy and accomplishments of black faculty and staff
  • Meeting our new President, Jane McAuliffe, and hearing her vision for the college
  • Updates on the current state of Bryn Mawr and black students
  • Workshops addressing issues of interest and possible action
  • Plenary session to determine where we go from here
  • Food, fun, music and other entertainment

While much has changed at our alma mater since we were students, Bryn Mawr remains committed a high quality liberal arts education for women as well as top notch graduate education. Students and alumnae/i still point to the close-knit community, lifelong friends, and interaction with faculty and staff as the highlights of their educational experience. Time and again, we have experienced the value of our Bryn Mawr education and how it has opened doors. Just being in the presence of poised, highly competent, creative Mawrters of color is a unique treasure of which we can be proud.

Pick up the telephone, and call your classmates. Be sure to attend this important gathering. Come see old friends, make new friends, mentor current students and experience the Black Alumnae Conference!
