From prehistoric nomadism to space travel, human beings have always
been on the move. Motivated by intellectual curiosity, desire for
conquest, or sheer necessity, people have crossed vast geographical
or conceptual spaces and immersed themselves in foreign cultures.
These experiences have been expressed through literature, artistic
works, and material culture. This conference will examine ideas, means,
and ends of the journey through papers by graduate students in
archaeology, classics, the history of art, and cognate disciplines.
