ABIR Modeling

Associate Director Ian S. Lustick has been leading several related research projects at the Asch Center, each based on the Agent-Based Identity Repertoire (ABIR) Models.  ABIR models are built using the PS-I agent-based modeling toolkit, a powerful software platform that does not require computer programming expertise by end users. Researchers have applied this bottom-up simulation approach to a wide array of problems, including secessionism, globalization, political violence, tipping points, bioterrorism, and Middle East politics.  Portions of this work have received significant support from the Carnegie Corporation's Program on International Peace and Security.  At present support is being received from the National Science Foundation to support ongoing research, a seminar on complexity, evolution, and agent-based modeling, a monthly workshop (the Penn Agent-Based Modeling Laborabory--PAMLA), and a variety of training opportunities for interested scholars.  More information about this and other agent-based modeling projects can be found here.
