Bryn Mawr, Pa. - The Bryn Mawr College Athletic Department celebrated another year, recognized their athletes, and presented its "big four" awards at the annual Athletic Awards Night. The event was held Tuesday, May 6, in Thomas Great Hall.
The Ray award is given to an athlete, faculty or staff member that shows spirit, enthusiasm and support of many, if not, all athletic teams. This year's award goes to Zoe Fuller-Young, member of the soccer team and known to many as Predator the Owl during basketball season.
The Janet Yeager Cup is given in honor of Janet Yeager and is given to an individual(s) that has given outstanding service to the department. This year's recipients are Bill McKenna from the facilities department and Lily Chen of the field hockey team.
The Anne Lee Delano Award is presented in honor of Anne Delano to the outstanding senior-scholar-athlete (when appropriate) who has demonstrated outstanding achievement in athletics and academics (3.5 or higher GPA) and who has contributed to the Bryn Mawr College Community. Senior Stephanie Wujcik of the basketball and lacrosse team is the 2008 Delano Award winner.
The Jenepher P. Shillingford Award is presented to a member of the senior class who has demonstrated throughout her four years, athletic excellence, sportsmanship and leadership. She needs to demonstrate superior and consistent athletic ability and meets athletic potential, demonstrates a commitment to good sportsmanship on and off the field, and demonstrates leadership to teammates and the athletic department. This years Shillingford award winner is the co-captain of the lacrosse team, Greta Flaherty.
