Katie Tarr has been at the helm of the Bryn Mawr basketball program for the past three seasons. The 2006-2007 season was the most successful campaign in 10 years.
Also entering her fourth season as the head lacrosse coach and a physical education instructor, Tarr is excited for the future of Bryn Mawr basketball. The 2006-2007 season featured a number of promising highlights, including three conference wins over Swarthmore College , Haverford College and Franklin and Marshall College .
While working on a master's of science in higher education administration from the University of Pennsylvania , Tarr served as an assistant lacrosse coach and as a graduate assistant for the Executive Doctorate Program in Higher Education Management and Penn Center for Higher Education Management.
Before receiving a bachelor's of arts in psychology from Swarthmore in 2002, Tarr certainly left her mark in the school's basketball and lacrosse record books. As a four-year member of the basketball team, she helped lead the Garnet to a Centennial Conference title and a second round NCAA National Tournament appearance during her junior season. Tarr also earned the Cochran-Bond Award for leadership and sportsmanship her junior year and served as a team captain during her senior campaign. She left Swarthmore with a number of basketball records and still holds the career record for games played.
During her lacrosse career at Swarthmore, Tarr broke Centennial Conference records for most goals in a career and most goals as a freshman. She was selected as a Second Team Regional All-American all four years of her career and earned First Team All-Centennial Conference honors in 2001 and 2002 (second team in 2000 and honorable mention all-conference in 1999). Some of her other awards and honors include being an Eastern Coast Athletic Conference All-Star in 2001 and 2002, participating in the North/South Senior Game, and making the IWLCA All-Academic Team after her junior and senior seasons.
Additionally, Tarr is a certified trainer for the Positive Coaching Alliance (PCA), a non-profit organization that works with coaches, parents, and recreational and school sport organizations to provide positive sports experiences for youth. She is also the co-director of the Snell-Shillingford Coaching Symposium, which focuses on educating college age women on the opportunities in coaching.
Deb Charamella returns to Bryn Mawr after captaining the team for three seasons and playing four years for the Owls. Before graduating in the spring of 2005, Charamella left an impressive mark on the Bryn Mawr basketball program.
A second-team All-Centennial Conference selection after her senior season, Charamella ranks 9th in the all-time Centennial Conference assist leaders and is Bryn Mawr's all-time assist leader with 348 assists during her career.
Additionally, Charamella scored 934 points and had 199 steals in her three seasons with the Owls. This past summer, Charamella competed in Australia in the 2005 Eastern University Tournament, in which her team took home the bronze medal
