Swarthmore, Pa. – Junior co-captain Jessica Allen netted a game-high 25 points for the Owls, but it was not enough to hold off the Garnet as Swarthmore rolled to a 68-62 overtime victory in conference action Tuesday night.
With 1:06 remaining in regulation and the Owls down by two, Allen connected on a jumper to tie the game for the fifth time on the night. Despite three combined attempts to win the game, neither team was able to get the rock to drop.
In overtime, Swarthmore struck first as Karen Berk connected on two free-throws and the Garnet never looked back. Swarthmore outscored Bryn Mawr 8-14 in the extra frame to secure their sixth win of the season.
Sophomore Shanika Bridges-King registered her second double-double of the season with 15 points and a team-high 13 rebounds. Allen grabbed eight rebounds as senior co-captain Katie Driscoll added eight points. Bridges-King had a team-high five assists and a game-high five steals.
Swarthmore had four in double digits. Katheryn Stockbower scored a team-high 22 points as Berk added 17 and Pamela Costello and Melissa Grisby both tallied 10. Stockbower also grabbed a game-high 18 rebounds while dishing out eight assists.
Bryn Mawr is now 4-15 overall and 1-11 in the Centennial as Swarthmore improves to 6-13 overall and 3-10 in conference action. The Owls return to action Thursday night when they return to Schwartz Gymnasium to take on Muhlenberg. Tip-off is set for 7:00 p.m.
