Bryn Mawr Basketball is coming off of their best season in 10 years under the direction of Head Coach Katie Tarr. The Owls posted three Centennial Conference wins over Franklin and Marshall College, Swarthmore College and Haverford College last season. The three victories marked the most conference wins for the Owls since joining the Centennial Conference in 1993. With four returning starters from last season's squad, the team has their goals set high for their 2007-08 campaign.
Leading the Owls is senior co-captain Katie Driscoll (Little Neck, NY/Townsend Harris). A versatile and quick point guard, Driscoll returns to the starting line-up with her 8.0 points per game, 1.8 steals per game, and 1.8 assists per game. Junior co-captain Jessica Allen (Reading, PA/Reading) averaged 11.1 points per game, 8.1 rebounds per game last year will provide leadership and experience in the post.
Junior Julia Harris (Newbury Park, CA/ Newbury Park) will return as a starter and continue to play a vital role in the overall success of the team. In nine games last year, before suffering a season ending injury, Harris recorded 37 steals, 14 assists, 7 blocks, while averaging 3.9 points per game and 2.8 rebounds per game.
Breaking into the starting line-up for the second half of the season last year, sophomore Shanika Bridges-King (Roxbury, MA/ English High School) will fill the small forward position for the Owls. Bridges-King had an impressive freshman campaign and will be a go-to player this season. Classmate Caroline Heffernan (Pittsburgh, PA/ Fox Chapel Area) will be a great addition to the starting line-up this season. Heffernan will get the starting nod after her consistent contributions to the team towards the end of the season. Junior forward Andrea Zambetti (Scarsdale, NY/ Scarsdale) will add support for the Owls with her fresh-legs off the bench.
The Owls are returning six players from a year ago, two sophomores, three juniors, and one senior will look to improve from last year as they gain the help from seniorStephanie Wujcik (Mt. Laurel, NJ/Lenape), as well as, first-years Callie Jensen (Ridgewood, NJ/Montclair Kimberly Academy) and Yuan Qiao (Shijiazhuang, Hebei, P.R. China/Raffles Junior College).
In addition to their Centennial Conference play and their participation in the College of Notre Dame tip-off tournament, the Owls will travel to Southern California to play Pomona-Pitzer Colleges and Claremont-Mudd-Scripps College during the first week of January.
