Varsity Crew Takes Second Place as Novice Finish Third at Murphy Cup Regata

March 24, 2007 - The Bryn Mawr College Rowing program started their season with some very intense racing at the Murphy Cup Regatta. The Varsity rowed neck and neck with SUNY Geneseo down the 2,000 meter race course of the Schuylkill River . Both Bryn Mawr and Geneso were well ahead of the Susquehanna University Varsity 8. Although Bryn Mawr put on a good challenge for the finish line, Geneso held on to win by just 2 seconds.

The Bryn Mawr Novice Crew got off to a great start and finished in the top of the Division III programs entered in the novice 8 event. The Murphy Cup Regatta does not separate the DIII programs from the DI programs as the do in the Varsity events. Bryn Mawr, racing a 2,000 meter "sprint" race got off the line quickly and held on the DI ST Joseph's University for the first 1000 meters of the race and pulling ahead of Johns Hopkins and Susquehanna. The Novice crew came in third behind two DI programs and held off a strong challenge by John's Hopkins .

Bryn Mawr returns to the water next Saturday as they host Susquehanna down at Boat House Row in Philadelphia.
