HEFFERNAN LIFTS FIELD HOCKEY TO 1-0 DOUBLE OVERTIME WIN AGAINST SMITH

South Hadley, Mass.Caroline Heffernan scored her first goal of the season in the 97th minute to propel the Owls to a 1-0 win over Smith College on opening day of the Seven Sisters Championships.

Bryn Mawr and Smith battled to a scoreless tie over two periods of regulation and almost two overtime periods. In the 97th minute, Heffernan took a pass from senior forward Ashley Dawkins and blasted the ball past the Pioneers’ goalie to give the Owls their second 1-0 win of the season.

Sophomore goalkeeper Caitlin Evans was brilliant in net for Bryn Mawr, making 22 saves en route to her second shutout of the year.

Despite being outshot 36-3 and down in penalty corners (22-2), the Owls got the shot when needed to pick up the victory.  

Bryn Mawr is now 2-2 on the season and will take on Mt. Holyoke Sunday. Game time is scheduled for 12:00 noon.
