Bryn Mawr, Pa. – Bryn Mawr senior Greta Flaherty scored three goals and pulled within one of 100 Thursday as the Owls fell to Haverford 8-7 in conference play.
Haverford's Liz Koelmel gave the Fords an early 1-0 lead at 2:39. Ten minutes of back and forth lacrosse led to another Haverford goal as Sarah Morris went between the pipes at 12:32.
A Greta Flaherty goal at 14:49 pulled the Owls within one before Elizabeth Mayell push Haverford's lead back to two, 3-1, with 15:41 remaining. Georgia Lawrence's goal at 20:06, was assisted by Flaherty, and cut the Fords lead back to one, 3-2.
Four unanswered goals spanning seventeen minutes and two periods, pushed Haverford's lead to five, 7-2, with 21:25 left in the game. Bryn Mawr, relentless to give up, scored five straight goals. Flaherty and Moriah Scott netted two goals each as Lawrence picked up her second of the game during the twelve minute, 5-0 BMC run. The game was tied at 7, with 2:47 remaining.
The Owls, on the offensive side of the ball, had 32-seconds remaining to score the winning goal. With twenty-six seconds left, Bryn Mawr was called for offside's, giving the ball to Liz Theibert and Haverford. From the re-start, Theibert at the Ford's defensive third, took the ball through the neutral zone and into their offensive third. Inside the 8-meter mark, Theibert beat Owl's goalie Steph Hilton for the go ahead and eventual game winner with seventeen ticks remaining.
Bryn Mawr was 13-21 in clears while Haverford was 18-20. The Owls held a slim 9-8 advantage in draw controls and a 22-19 lead in ground balls.
Lawrence picked-up seven ground balls as Katie Kellom grabbed three. Flaherty possessed four draws and forced one turnover. Callie Jensen and Hilton caused two turnovers each. Hilton made eight saves in the net.
Flaherty is currently at 99 goals on her four-year career and will look to clip the century mark when Bryn Mawr travels to #4 Gettysburg Saturday afternoon. Game time is set for 1:00 p.m.
The Owls are now 3-3 overall and 0-1 in Centennial action as Haverford improves to 5-3 and 1-1 in conference play.
