Swarthmore, Pa. – The Swarthmore Garnet used a six goal second half to top the Owls 11-9 in league play Tuesday night. Georgia Lawrence led Bryn Mawr with three goals.
Despite being down 2-0 early, Bryn Mawr battled back with three unanswered goals to take a 3-2 lead with 9:22 to play in the first half. Lawrence scored two of the Owls three goals while Moriah Scott added the other. Scott’s goal came way of a free-position shot.
Swat’s Abbe Muller tied the game at three before Katie Kellom pushed BMC’s lead back to one, 4-3. Two goals by Swarthmore with under 2:30 left in the half gave them a 5-4 half-time lead.
To start the second-half, Alex Gilbert-Bono pushed the Garnet’s lead to two. Greta Flaherty netted her forty-fourth goal of the season at 21:56 via free-position shot. Swat got three more goals to take a 9-5 lead.
Two-minutes later, Wurtz netted her second goal of the game followed by Lawrence’s third at 10:38. Abbie Fischer secured Swarthmore the victory at 9:10 pushing the score to 10-7.
Flaherty netted another goal at 4:38 only to be answered by Marissa Shaffer. Evan Schneider scored her second goal of the season with five seconds remaining in the game to cut Swat’s lead to two, 11-9.
Lawrence recorded four groundballs and two draw controls as Jessica Lee scooped up four groundballs and Kellom had a team-high three draws. Lee and Lawrence had four and three caused turnovers, respectively.
For Swarthmore, Shaffer had a game-high four goals while Gilbert-Bono had one. Four others registered one. Amy Vachal had two assists.
Bryn Mawr falls to 4-10 overall and 0-8 in the Centennial while the Garnet improve to 5-10 and 1-6 CC. The Owls return to action on Saturday, April 19, as they host Washington at 1:00 p.m. in conference action.
