Bryn Mawr, Pa. – Bryn Mawr's five seniors, Greta Flaherty, Jessica Lee, Moriah Scott, Stephanie Wujcik, and Jessica Wurtz, were all honored before the start of their last Centennial Conference game against Washington, Saturday afternoon.
Flaherty got the Owls on the board first, thirty-five seconds into the game. Back-to-back goals by Washington's Suzie Jakub pushed the Shorewomen ahead 2-1. Junior attack, Georgia Lawrence, tied the game at 2 with her goal in the eighth minute.
Washington retaliated with four unanswered goals, over an eleven minute span, to take a 6-2 lead.
At 24:48 Flaherty unloaded a shot and beat goalie Amber Madore to the upper ninety. Five minutes later, Flaherty struck again as she cut Washington's lead to 2, 4-6.
In the second-half, the Shorewomen came out of the gate and scored three goals to take a five point lead. Lawrence pulled the Owls within four, 5-9, with a goal at 6:20, her thirteenth of the season.
Washington went on to score three back-to-back-to-back goals by Jakub, Jenna Gouck, and Brittany Lambert, taking a seven point lead. Scott netted one of her two goals on the day with an unassisted goal at 17:19.
The Shorewomen added two more goals in the seventeenth and twenty-fifth minutes to push their lead to 14-6. The Owls got two goals by Flaherty and Scott at 26:26 and 29:17, respectively, to close out the game.
Bryn Mawr's Steph Hilton posted 23 saves in the net while scooping-up two groundballs. Wujcik had a game-high five ground balls while Callie Jensen picked-up four. Lawrence won a team-high four draws as Cara Sogliuzzo had three. Sogliuzzo also won three draws and caused two turnovers. Lee caused a team-high three Washington turnovers.
Pacing Washington was Jakub with four goals and Gouck with three. Lindsay Fox added two goals while five other Shorewomen went between the pipes once. Lambert had a game-high four assist as Allie Hanzche and Allie Luchey dished out two and one assists, respectively.
The Owls are now 4-11 overall and 0-9 in the Centennial while the Shorewomen finish their season 8-8 and 3-6 in league play. Bryn Mawr will close their 2008 season on Thursday, April 24, as they host Immaculata. Game time is set for 4:30 p.m. on Applebee Field. -Box Score-
