RUGBY DOMINATES ST. JOES’S WITH 20-5

Bryn Mawr, Pa. – The Bryn Mawr-Haverford Horned Toads finally started their spring season as the first two contests were canceled due to rain and snow. The Toads picked up where they left off in the fall as they defeated St. Joe’s 20-5.

The Toads started out playing a little sloppy which could be attributed to the long layoff. However, once they got focused they started playing like the current Eastern Pennsylvania Rugby Union (EPRU) Champs they are, and started to take control of the match. The pack immediately took control of the rucks and mauls moving St. Joe's off the ball. However, at first the Toads struggled with getting the ball out cleanly to the backs. Once they settled in the Horned Toads started moving the ball through many phases and methodically moved the ball downfield. This ultimately resulted in three scores and a 15-0 halftime lead.

Although at time the Toads tackling looked more like they were trying to dance with St. Joe's rather than tackling them, they were able to keep the Hawks off the scoreboard in the first half.

The second half the Horned Toads seemed content just trying to keep St. Joe's at bay, but St' Joe's was very determined to get back into this match. They came out very aggressive and caught the Toads off guard mid way through the second half and broke off a long run before being pushed out one yard from scoring a try. The Hawks were determined to score, but the Toads stopped them four times before the Hawks finally pushed the ball across for a try.

The rest of the half was a chess match before the Toads finally got back into doing what they did in the first half of moving the ball quickly down the line of support keeping the Hawks on their heels. The Toads were able to break through for a score to make it 20-5. The whistle sounded and the Toads had a win.

In the "B" side match the Horned Toads made up of mostly new players playing their first match tied a more experienced Hawk side 10-10.

In attendance at the match was lots of alumni and parents supporting the Horned Toads.
