Bryn Mawr, Pa. – Six Owls netted goals as Bryn Mawr silenced the Lions roar with a 7-1 victory in the consolation game of the 2007 Bryn Mawr College Soccer Invitational.
Katy Wing got Bryn Mawr on the board first at 12:39 as she connected on a corner kick from Wallis Romzek. Less than a minute later, Akua Nyame-Mensah took a feed from Laura Costanzo and duplicated the result of Wing’s shot to give the Owls a 2-0 led.
Emily Wiseman scored an unassisted goal at 23:17 before Lincoln’s Chiamaka Opara got the Lions on the board with her goal at 28:44. Bryn Mawr’s next goal came on an “own goal" towards the end of first half. The Owls took a 4-1 lead into the half.
Romzek scored the first goal of the second half at 50:33 before Sydni Meyer and Sarah Matteson both took passes from Jillian Forde to net Bryn Mawr’s sixth and seventh goals of the game. Wiseman added an assist on Romzek’s goal.
The Owls outshot the Lions 24-2 and held a 10-0 lead on corner kicks. Lincoln’s Tanuna Cook recorded a career-high 17 saves in goal.
Bryn Mawr improves to 1-1 on the season and return to action on Friday, September 7, as they will host N.C. Wesleyan at 4:00 p.m. on Applebee Field.
