Bryn Mawr, Pa. – The tennis team blanked visiting Albright College Wednesday afternoon in their season opener, 9-0, as the Owls did not allow more than two games in any set.
Bryn Mawr took an early 3-0 lead as #1 doubles (Karen Ginsburg/Leah Blankenship) and #3 doubles (Anna Dejdar/April Lee) defeated their opponents 8-0. The #2 team of Marie Sager and Melissa Mansh topped Marissa Cooperman and Stacy Bampton 8-1.
The only shutout of singles came from the #6 position as Lee won 6-0, 6-0 over Amanda Cain. At #1 singles, Ginsburg defeated Copperman 6-1, 6-0; while #2 Sager and #5 Dejdar won their matches 6-2, 6-1. In the #3 slot, Blankenship defeated Bampton 6-2, 6-0, while Mansh bettered Brittany Hubert 6-2, 6-0.
Head coach Jody Law stated “Everyone on the team played tough by moving the ball around the court and being aggressive at the net.”
The Owls are 1-0 on the season as Albright drops to 1-4. Bryn Mawr returns to action next Wednesday as the junior varsity team takes on Rosemont College at 4:00 p.m. The next varsity match is set for October 5, as the team travels to the Franklin and Marshall Invite; start time is 3:30 p.m.
