Chester, Pa. – Katie Weng took home gold in the 10,000 meters as many others Owls’ open the 2008 outdoor season with strong performances at the Danny Curran Invite hosted by Widener University.
Bryn Mawr took on more than 30 schools from all three divisions on a cool and brisk day. Katie Weng won the 10,000 meters on a brisk and windy Friday night and Jessica Varney ran a good 5k in her 2008 track debut.
Katie Kent finished 8th in the discus with an outstanding first meet, throwing 109'2". Grace Kung and
Christine Head made their collegiate debuts in the discus and both threw well.
On Saturday, the 4 x 100 meter relay of Ashley Dawkins, Aigne Goldsby, Akua Nyame-Mensah, and Jane Tseng opened with a solid race. Goldsby came back in the 100 hurdles with a strong race before taking on the 400 meter hurdles for the first time in her career.
In the 400 meters Nyame-Mensah set a new personal best and moved to #3 all time on the all time list, running away from the competition to win the event in 59.05. Tseng also ran extremely well in the 400 as Christine Lee ran well in her debut at the same distance Lee came back later in the day to set a new personal best time in the 200 meter.
April Stewart ran well in establishing personal bests in the 100 and 200 meters and Ashley Dawkins doubled back to run a nice 200 meters.
The Owls will return to the track as they travel to Valley Forge Christian Academy and College on April 9. Meet start time has not been determined.
