THREE SCHOOL RECORDS BROKEN AT THE WIDENER INVITATIONAL

Chester, Pa. – Three school records and numerous personal bests were set when the track and field team traveled to Chester for the Widener Invite.

The invite officially got underway on Friday with Katie Kent and Grace Kung competing in the discus. Kent finished in 6th place.

When the gun went off on Saturday, the 4 x 100 meter relay team of Marge Cheng, Akua Nyame-Mensah, April Stewart, and Ashley Dawkins opened the day by racing to a school record 52.28 seconds.

Solid performances by Jane Tseng and Dawkins in the 400 were followed by Cheng setting her second school record of the day with a 13.36 in the 100 meters.  Stewart also continued her improvement in the 100 meters by running a 13.91.

Kate Duguid kept up the string of personal bests with her performance in the 800 meters. Nyame-Mensah then broke her own, week old, time in the 200 by sprinting to a 25.63. Stewart and Alix Dermer ran strong races in the 200 meters as well.

Running in the steeplechase for the first time in their careers, Katie Weng and Jess Varney ran well and qualified for the conference championships in two weeks.

Cheng, Nyame-Mensah, Tseng, and Dawkins all doubled back in the 4 x 400 relay and ran an outstanding 4:13.87 to top off an excellent weekend for the running Owls.

Assistant coach and Olympic hopeful, Delilah DiCrescenzo, ran the steeplechase at the Mt. Sac Relays on Friday night where she finished the race in 9:51.49, the best time in the U.S. so far this year.

The Owls return to action on April 24, when they travel to historic Franklin Field for the annual Penn Relays.
