NYAME-MENSAH QUALIFIES PROVISONALLY FOR NATIONALS

Gettysburg, Pa. – Sophomore Akua Nyame-Mensah qualified provisionally for the 2008 NCAA Division III National Championships in the 400 with a time of 57.48.

In addition to qualifying for nationals, Nyame-Mensah earned All-Conference honors in the 400 and 200. In the 400, she set a new school record but was unable to hold off Megan Hunter of Franklin and Marshall to finish second. In the 200, she took first place with a time of 25.92.

The 4x400 team of Marge Cheng, Ashley Dawkins, Nyame-Mensah, and Virginia Tseng took fourth place with a time of 4:10.11. Dan Talbot, head coach, stated “I was really impressed that they were able to run their fastest time of the year, it's a real tribute to the four of them that they could muster that kind of effort at the end of a long meet.”

The 4x100 team comprised of Cheng, Nyame-Mensah, April Stewart, and Tseng exceeded all expectation as they finished 5 th and missed a school record by 1/100 th of a second.

In the shot put, Grace Kung set a new personal best (8.82m, 28'11.25 ft.) while Cheng finshed 8th in the 100 meters, scoring a crucial team point.

The Owls took eighth place at the conference meet topping Swarthmore by two points and McDaniel by 28. Haverford took home first place with 215 points.
