Coaching Staff

Head Coach: Joan Braid

 

Head Coach Joan Braid comes to Bryn Mawr, after a stint as an assistant coach at Villanova University, to head up the volleyball program.

A USAV CAP II certified coach and USAV regional referee, Braid spent a combined total of thirteen seasons coaching high school at Garnet Valley and St. Maria Goretti High Schools. A club coach since 1993, she is currently in her tenth season as the Director of the Freedom Volleyball Club. She has also been an Assistant Director and Coach with the Quaker City Volleyball Club and the Head Coach for four seasons with the Media Boys Club.

In the spring of 2006, Braid received the Jack Schatz Award at the National Convention of the Amateur Athletic Union for contribution to the sport of volleyball for her work as the Middle Atlantic AAU Volleyball District Director. Under her leadership, the District has grown to be the fourth largest District for AAU Volleyball.

A native of Springfield, Pa., Braid holds a bachelor of science degree in liberal arts with emphasis in health and physical education and business administration from West Chester University.

 

Assistant Coach: Greg Atkins

 

Assistant Coach: Jonathan Young

Jonathan Young has been with the Owls program since 2002.  A native of Kaneohe, HI, Young began his volleyball career at Maryknoll High School in Honolulu HI.  There he also played for the Kamali’i  Manaloa ‘O Hawaii club team.  Young is a graduate of Villanova University where he majored in English and Art History. While at Villanova he was captain and setter for the Villanova Men’s Club Volleyball team.  Coach Young is also a coach with Freedom Volleyball Club.
