  • Earthwatch International Service Trip Information Session: November 18, 6:00 - 7:00 pm @ Campus Center 200 Come and learn about Bryn Mawr's first international service trip: Tarrazu: Sustainable Coffee Farming in Costa Rica. This trip will be organized by Earthwatch and will be held August 14-21, 2010. Join Bryn Mawr alumnae and undergraduate students as we discover the impact of our consumer choices, while helping farmers and scientists create coffee farms that are better for the environment.   • Art Club Gallery Opening: November 21, 8:00pm-11:00pm @ BMC Arnecliffe Studio (*between Perry House and Dalton Hall) Students, faculty and staff are invited to join the Art Club for a night of music, dessert and art activities!   • Volunteer Income Tax Assistance Program Information  Sessions: Sunday, November 22nd at 9:00 in Campus Center 200 & Wednesday, December 2nd at 7:30 in Dalton 1
  • Coat Drive for Families in Norristown: The Civic Engagement Office is hosting its annual Coat Drive to donate coats, gloves, and scarves for a Holiday Toy Distribution event organized by ACLAMO (Acción Comunal Latinoamericana de Montgomery County). These winter accessories will be donated to families in need in Norristown. Please look out for collection boxes in your dorms and various campus buildings. The last day to donate is December 10.   • Fundraiser: Empty Bowl Benefit Dinner for Northwest Philadelphia Interfaith Hospitality Network: Thursday, November 19th 4:30pm-8:30pm (Open Seating) @ Chestnut Hill College, Sorgenti Arena 9601 Germantown Avenue, Philadelphia, PA 19118. Join neighbors of Chestnut Hill College for a night with great soup and great company! Chestnut Hill College proudly sponsors this annual fundraising dinner for the Northwest Philadelphia Interfaith Hospitality Network (NPIHN), a program involving 1000 volunteers from area congregations in serving local homeless families.  Guests select a bowl, fill it with delicious soup, eat and enjoy. At the end of the dinner, each attendee leaves with an empty bowl as a reminder that many in our country have empty bowls.   • Scholarly Lecture: Protecting Women’s Health: Thursday, November 19th 5:30pm: The New Century Trust Building, 1307 Locust Street, Center City, Philadelphia.Carol Rogers (2009-10 Hepburn Center) will be talking about her career in the Philadelphia Department of Public Health focusing on women’s reproductive health issues, and about her participation in the successful campaign to save the City's eight comprehensive health care centers.   • Poetry Reading: Seeking Social Justice But Transcending Judgment Through Poetry: Thursday, November 19th 7:00-9:00pm: Katharine Lower Conference Room, BMC Graduate School of Social Work and Research. Award-winning author and poet Kathleen Sheeder Bonanno will be reading from her book of poetry, Slamming Open the Door, which recounts the murder of her daughter and the ways in which she sought to heal while seeking justice and grieving loss.   • Volunteer Opportunity: Give Kids Sight Day: Saturday, November 21st 8:00am-noon or 11:00am-3:00pm Wills Eye Institute, 840 Walnut Street Philadelphia, PA 19107. The Public Citizens for Children and Youth’s (PCCY) is seeking volunteers to help with an event that provides free eye exams and glasses to children at the Wills Eye Institute.   • Film Screening: Philadelpha — The Great Experiment a documentary film on the history of Philadelphia: Tuesday, November 24th 7:00pm-9:00pm, Carpenter Library B21. Philadelphia: The Great Experiment is a multi-format historical documentary television film and internet project that presents the story of Philadelphia as a stage for the testing of American ideals that covers more than four centuries of history.   • Conference: Women & Influence 2009 Confident Girls, Courageous Women: Saturday, December 5th 9:30am-3:00pm: Moore College of Art & Design, 20th Street and the Parkway Philadelphia, PA 19103. Join a group of young women and adults who care about, work with, or influence young women. This is a half-day conference that will focus on promoting a healthy sense of self for young women by reaching out to high school-aged females. Learn from city officials, local agencies, and community members about the importance of mentoring and building strong self-confidence at a young age.   • Winter Seminar: PLEN's Women & Public Policy Seminar: January 11th -15th, 2010 @ Washington, DC 20036. The Public Leadership Education Network (PLEN) will be offering an opportunity for female students to learn, first-hand, the different ways an individual can make and influence public policy (e.g. finance, education, and sustainability). The seminars will be taught by women who influence national policy every day: top legislative staffers, White House officials and federal agency leaders, nonprofit advocates and corporate lobbyists.  These women immerse the students in the major issues of the day, guide them through the realities of policy making, and help them discover whether they want to become part of the process.   • Volunteer Program: After School Dance Coordinators for ASAP. ASAP/After School Activities Partnerships is a non-profit organization that coordinates after school programming at sites across the Philadelphia School District. ASAP is currently seeking dancers who are interested in working with students who would otherwise not be able to afford dance classes or may not have the opportunity to be exposed to dance.
