| Course Description | |
Abridged General Chemistry 103 L is a course designed for students entering Bryn Mawr College with an exceptionally strong foundation in chemistry. Students enrolled in Chem103L typically have completed more than one year of high school chemistry and possibly an Advanced Placement course in chemistry and do not require the detailed level of instruction offered in Chem 103. |
The purpose of Chem103L is to provide a challenging environment to keep a student's chemistry skills sharp to prepare her to enter Chem 104, the second semester of General Chemistry in the spring. The content of Chem103L parallels that in the normal track Chem103 course, but is covered as an overview rather than in detail. The course consists of one hour of tutorial per week and all of the laboratory content of Chem 103. Lecture periods will be devoted to problem solving and discussion. There is very little presentation of concepts in a tradional lecture format. Rather, students are expected to particpate in lecture having prepared for the scheduled topics by reading the text and doign assigned homework problems in the text. |
Grades for Chem 103L are based on laboratory reports/exams (60%), lecture problem sets (30%), and class attendance and participation (10%). |
