Protecting Children
In High Conflict Families
Honorable Stephen M. Holden, PhD'75, JD
Judge, Superior Court State of New Jersey
Intervening effectively in the lives of children and their families is not the sole responsibility of the courts, a single agency or professional group, but rather it is a shared community concern. Child protection in the face of domestic violence or divorce is a complex issue, presenting challenges to the legislative and judicial systems. Holden drew on his many years of experience as Judge in the Superior Court of New Jersey, attorney, professor and community advocate in discussing the strengths and limitations of the law in regulating behavior within households and addressing the need for collaboration with community based agencies.
