Growth and Structure of Cities Program

3/2 Program in City and Regional Planning

Short Description (compiled by Sarah Lynch '07)

The 3/2 Program in City and Regional Planning allows students to obtain a baccalaureate degree with a major in the Growth of Structure of Cities from Bryn Mawr College and a master's degree in City and Regional Planning from the University of Pennsylvania in five years. While at Bryn Mawr, the student must complete the College requirements and the Major requirements. The student applies directly to the M.C.P. program at Penn during the sophomore or junior year. No courses taken prior to official acceptance into the M.C.P. program may be counted towards the master's degree. Only advanced Cities courses (300-level and above) may be counted toward the M.C.P., and no more than eight courses (four 300-levels, plus four core curriculum M.C.P. courses) may be double-counted towards both the A.B. and the M.C.P. During the summer before senior year, the student must attend the month-long, non-credit bearing Summer City Planning Institute (SCPI) at Penn. During the summer following graduation, the student must fulfill a non-credit bearing internship in their area of professional interest. In the second year, the student chooses from one of three concentrations: Community and Economic Development; Transportation Planning, Environmental Planning, and Growth Management; Urban Development and Design.
