Background of Snow's Court

Brief History of Snow's Court and its Location.

Creation of Snow's Court

There is little documentation on the origins of Snow's Court. Swinney in "Alley Dwellings and Housing Reform" states that the name originated before the Civil War when a property owner on the block, C.A. Snow, erected a greenhouse and four frame homes facing the interior of the block.

The earliest mention of Snow's Court that I could find was a building permit from 1877 which mentions Snow's Court as the location.

Location of Snow's Court

Snow's Court is located between 24th and 25th streets NW and I and K streets NW in the Foggy Bottom neighborhood in Washington, DC. Its located approximately 9 blocks from the White House.
