Building Name: Bell Atlantic Building Location: 1717 Arch Street Year Built: 1991 Client: Bell Atlantic Corporation Building Description: The Bell Atlantic building is a landmark in Philadelphia's skyline. It is 55 stories tall clad in red granite. This building, although built post urban renewal, marked the last building designed by Kling to complete his vision of a unified center of commerce in Philadelphia. The objective of the design was to create a corporate image for Bell Atlantic while maintaining Kling's theory of building for the people. Much like his earlier work, the building consisted of a large urban plaza stretching out to the parkway. The building is set back at the top creating terraces that are lit at night. |
