Hall Advisers and Customs People can be valuable resources for you when dealing with a conflict. Talking with your HA or Customs Person can help you think through an issue, define your priorities and goals, and even allow you to role-play some of the language you might use in addressing your situation. They can offer a student's perspective and advice that could be useful to you.
Sometimes it seems awkward to approach a Customs Person or a Hall Adviser, especially if the person you're in conflict with is on your hall, or is a Customs Person or HA. If this is the case, remember that you can seek the assistance of Customs People or Hall Advisers on other halls. If you are concerned about the confidentiality of your situation, be sure to share that concern with your HA or Customs Person.
HAs and Customs People also have an excellent knowledge of campus resources and can help you find more information on other services that might be useful. They can help explain Mediation, Facilitated Dialogue and Counseling and can even help you schedule appointments. You are encouraged to approach your HA or Customs Person with issues that are troubling you. They can either help you themselves, or they can help connect you with the proper resources.

"I didn't think mediation would help, but it did."
"The dialogue itself was very well-run and helpful. I only wish it would have happened much sooner."
"Although my problem with my roommates is something larger than I believe any sort of mediation could fully fix or help - the mediation session was very helpful in being able to fully express my emotions in a neutral, non threatening setting. My mediators were kind, patient and helped us realize the different points of view within our argument. I would definitely recommend mediation; even though it seems as if it wont help; even if it doesn't fully fix a situation - it's important to have a resource on campus that can offer neutrality and order. Overall I was very impressed with my peer mediators."
