Decorative and Applied Arts Collection

The Decorative and Applied Arts Collection is represented in the rugs, furniture, tiles, silver and other metalwork, glass and applied arts (removed from College buildings) seen on campus. The Collection, an eloquent reminder of Bryn Mawr College’s history, has its origin in the extensive Heritage Collection (1880’s -1935) which belonged to the first Dean and second President, M. Carey Thomas, from her campus residence, “The Deanery,” now redistributed in various buildings such as Taylor Hall and Wyndham Alumnae House. These objects tell stories about College personages, whether it be administrators, faculty, or alumnae who have passed through Bryn Mawr’s doors, and friends of the College who have given generously to this institution. These objects help create the unique Bryn Mawr atmosphere. Take some time out in your day to note inspiring items in the environment, carved details on buildings, and exhibits significant to the history of Bryn Mawr College.
