The Art and Artifact collections have been assembled over a period of more than 100 years since the founding of Bryn Mawr College. The majority of the holdings have been acquired through generous donations and bequests from alumnae, faculty, and friends of the college.
Care and management of the collections is handled by two professional staff members--the Curator/Academic Liaison and the Collections Manager. They are assisted each year by eight to ten student workers, both undergraduate and graduate, who are engaged in inventorying, cataloguing, data management, preservation and housing of objects, research and installation of exhibitions, and assistance with classes and individual researchers.
All activities in the collections are guided by a Collections Committee, composed of faculty, administrators, and alumnae museum specialists, which oversees matters concerning collections policies, including acquisitions and deaccessions.
