Printing with iPrint

These instructions are written primarily for MacOS X and have been detailed using Mozilla Firefox.  However, the process for installing and using iPrint printers via Safari on the Mac, or via Firefox are extremely similar and these instructions, while not identical, can be used.  iPrint printing is available for Linux and WIndows.  WIndows instructions are available from the COmputing Web page.  If you are a Linux user and are interested in using iPrint, please call the Help Desk at x7440.

iPrint printer installations are available from Web pages hosted on the Novell Netware servers.  Use the appropriate URL as follows:

Installing the iPrint Client

1. Go tothe appropriate Web page listed above.

2. If there has not previously been an iPrint printer installed on the computer you are using, you will need to install the iPrint Client.  Click the “Install iPrint Client” link toward the upper right corner of the page.  You will get a dialog box asking you to save iprint.dmg.  Save this file to your desktop or another memorable location.

If the iprint.dmg file does not automatically extract, double-click to extract it and mount the installer drive (shown right).   

Double-click to open the iPrint Client v1.1 volume, and then double-click on the iPrint.pkg inside.

3. The installer for the iPrint client is fairly simple.  Click “Continue” on each screen until the installer announces that the installation is complete. 

During the course of the install, you may be asked to provide a password.   This is the password for your Mac, NOT for E-mail, Novell, or any other service. 

4. When you reach the final screen, click “Close” and then Quit and restart your Web browser (make sure to quit completely, not simply close and re-open the window).  It is not necessary to restart your whole computer.

Adding iPrint Printers

1. Return to the iPrint printer list of your choice:

2. Click the link (listed down the left side of the page) for the printer you would like to install.  You will see the following prompt:

3. Click OK.  You will then see the following dialog:

Click OK. 

The printer will now appear along with any other printers you may have installed when you print from applications such as Word, Excel, Firefox, etc.  To look at your complete list of printers, go to your Printer Setup Utility or System Preferences>Printers.

4. Return to the Web page to add additional printers.  You do not have to install the iPrint client again, simply click on the link for the additional printer.

If you have old Appletalk or IP printers installed which you will no longer need,you should now go to your Print Center, Printer Setup Utility, or System Preferences>Print & Fax to remove the old printers.  If you have trouble finding these or determining which printers are which, call the Help Desk at x7440.
