To
change your e-mail password using an SSh session, follow the instructions
below.
- Make a ssh connection to Ada. If you are using
a lab computer, follow the instructions for the platform you are using:
- On an Apple, click on the Terminal application
in the dock. Type ssh username@brynmawr.edu and press enter.
- On a Windows PC, click on the start menu and
locate the Network Tools folder and the PuTTY icon. Click
once on the PuTTY icon to start the program.
- Login to Ada, using your username and current
password.
- At the UNIX prompt, type passwd to
start the password changing program.
- For most users, the UNIX prompt will be ada>.
If yours does not look like this, do not panic. You may have
changed your prompt, or may have had a friend do this for you. Your
prompt may also simply be a $
or %. If you asked for your
password to be reset, the password changing program may start automatically.
- Follow the on-screen instructions.
- First you will be asked to enter your current
"login password". This is the same password that you have
just used to enter the system. Type the password and press [Enter].
- If your old password is not accepted, you will
be returned to the UNIX prompt. You should try to run the password
changing program again if this is the case.
- Pick your password. Your new password must conform
to the regulations listed on the main Changing
your Password page.
- When you are returned to the UNIX prompt, your password
has been successfully changed. Type logout or exit to
exit the system.
