Frequently
Asked Questions
What
is webmail?
Webmail allows you to use your Bryn Mawr e-mail account (ada)
from a web page. This is a similar interface to those offered by sites
such as Yahoo or Hotmail. You can access webmail through a web browser
at the following address: webmail.brynmawr.edu
What do I
need to use Webmail?
All you need is an Internet connection and a web browser, such as Firefox
or Netscape. You can access webmail from any networked campus computer,
or from off-campus as long as the computer has either a direct network
connection or a dial-up Internet Service Provider (ISP) account.
Can
I still use Thunderbird or pine and use webmail?
Yes. Using webmail does not interfere with using other mail programs. However,
if you use Eudora you may have it configured to download mail to your computer,
rather than leaving it on the server, in which case those messages will not
be available in TWIG in the future.
Can I check
other e-mail accounts from the BMC webmail page?
No. For security reasons the ability to access accounts at other
sites has been disabled on the BMC webmail page. Also, you should
not use the "Check
Other Mail" feature available on some other sites to check your BMC account,
as it may compromise security and your privacy.
What
about my quota?
There is a 2 megabyte quota limitation on your inbox, and a 10 megabyte
limit on the rest of the files in your account, including all mailboxes
other than your inbox. If you receive a warning that you are over your
inbox quota you should either delete messages from your inbox or move
messages to other folders. Remember that messages with attachments take
up a lot more space than other messages. Consider saving attachments
to a disk or your hard drive when possible, or limiting the number of
messages with attachments that you keep, especially in your inbox.
