Do IT : Wireless : Mac OS X

This documentation is for members of the Bryn Mawr College community to connect their computers to approved wireless access points across campus (ie Guild, Canaday, Park, etc).

Setting up additional Wireless Access Points is considered "extending the network", which is a violation of the Networking Policy and can result in loss of network privileges.

To connect to the wireless network using Mac OSX, you need to setup a new Location, and configure it to the correct settings.

Creating a new Location:
Insert your wireless network card into the side of your computer.

Image 1 (1) Click on the apple in the upper, left-hand corner of your screen, go down to Location, and click on Network Preferences.
Image 2 (2) Click on the Location bar, and select New Location.

(3) A small window will open, and ask you to name your new location. For this example, we named it Wireless Connection, so it is easy to identify, but you can name it anything.

Configuring the settings:
Image 4 (4) Click on the bar next to Show, and select Airport.
Image 5 (5) Click on TCP/IP, and make sure Using DHCP is select. If it is not, click on the Configure bar and select it.

(6) Click on the AirPort tab. Select Join a specific network, and type BrynMawrWireless in the Network field.

Click Apply Now, and close the System Preferences.

Depending on your settings, you may see a new icon at the top of your screen, indicating that you are connected to the network.

Congratulations, You're connected to the Bryn Mawr Wireless Network!
