 Do IT : Wireless : Win2000

This documentation is for members of the Bryn Mawr College community to connect their computers to approved wireless access points across campus (ie Guild, Canaday, Park, etc).

Setting up additional Wireless Access Points is considered "extending the network", which is a violation of the Networking Policy and can result in loss of network privileges.

To connect to the wireless network using Windows 2000, you need to setup your wireless card, and configure it to the correct settings.

Installing Wireless Card Drivers
Insert your wireless card into a PCMCIA slot on the side of your computer.
A Found New Hardware Wizard will open, if the correct drivers are not found automatically.

Image 1 (1) Click Next on the first screen.
Image 2 (2) The next screen gives you two options, Search for a driver or Display a list of available drivers.  Select the Search for a driver option and click Next.
Image 3

(3) The next screen will give you a list of places to search for the driver.  Insert the CD or floppy disk that came with your wireless card into the appropriate drive, and select the corresponding option in this screen, and click Next.

The computer will search the drive you have select for the correct driver, and install it. When it is done, click Finish. You may be asked to restart your computer.

Troubleshooting: If you receive an error saying the driver could not be found, go back and make sure you have the correct location selected.
If you do not have the disk that came with your wireless card, most drivers are available to download on the web.

Configuring your Wireless Network Card:
Once you have installed the correct driver, you will have to configure your wireless card so it can connect to the Bryn Mawr College Wireless Network.

The Property list for your wireless card may look different than these two. Look for something that indicates the Network Name or SSID, and enter the same value as above.
