Volunteer Activities
- Fall 2007:
- September 29th: Bryn Mawr continued to sponsor a children's arts and crafts booth at the Norristown Fall Festival at Elmwood Park.
- October 24: BMC students and staff participate in the 13th annual Montgomery County Literacy Network's Corporate Spelling Bee. One of Bryn Mawr's three teams present won the bee!
- October 27: CPIA, in partnership with the BMC Women's Center, raised $864 and for a third consecutive year participated in the Montgomery County Women's Center's "Unmask the Abuse Walk-A-Thon" to raise awareness about domestic violence.
- BMC students continue the partnership with Salvation Army in Norristown at the after-school program twice a week.
- Spring 2007:
- BMC students participate at CADCOM’s VITA program for a 4th consecutive year. 11 students worked to help return over $500,000 dollars back into the Norristown community.
- April 14th: BMC students walk in the Walk Against Hunger to benefit Norristown partners CADCOM and Agape Improvement and Development Corp.
- BMC students begin volunteering with the Salvation Army’s after school programs.
- Fall 2006:
- September 23rd: Norristown Fall Festival: BMC students and staff sponsor an arts and crafts booth at the 1st annual Fall Festival.
- October 28th: For a second consecutive year, BMC students participate in the “Unmask the Abuse Walk-A-Thon” to raise awareness about domestic violence in Norristown in support of The Montgomery County Women’s Center.
- November 4th: BMC students continue their support for the Tree-Vitalization project in collaboration with the Pennsylvania Horticultural Society, in Norristown.
- December 16th: BMC students volunteer for a second consecutive year at the ACLAMO holiday celebration; volunteers help distribute 2000 gifts to Norristown families.

Praxis Courses
- Fall 2007:
- Ten students from Literacies and Education, Educational Psychology and Special Education are working at Gotwals Elementary School in various 1st-5th grade classrooms.
- Klaralee Charlton is working with Jenneen Flamer in the College Career Center at Norristown Area High School as her Praxis III placement.
- Rebecca DiBrienza is doing her field placement for Literacies and Education at ACLAMO teaching adult ESL and pre-GED courses.
- Spring 2007:
- The Multi-Cultural Education class partnered with the Anti-Defamation League and Norristown Area School District to place students at Norristown Area High School, Eisenhower Middle School, and Gotwals Elementary working with each school’s No Place for Hate campaign activities.
- Five students from the Women’s Mental Health course worked with the Forteniters Club. Their work culminated in a Healthy Living Fair, which provided information about exercise and diet, mindfulness, coping with stress, loneliness, and depression.
- Three students from the Women’s Mental Health course worked in the ESL classes and after-school program at ACLAMO. They developed a workshop for students in the ESL classes about ways to handle stress.
- Fall 2006:
- Janique Parrott taught ESL at ACLAMO as her fieldwork for her Praxis III course, Methods and Approaches to Teaching ESL.
- Laura Severance did her Praxis III fieldwork for Women’s Reproductive Health in the 21st Century at Planned Parenthood.
- Laura Cyckowski did her Praxis III fieldwork for Culture as Disability at Hedwig House.
- Inez Steigerwald, from the Empowering Learners course, Ileana Garcia, from the Citizenship and Migration course, and Jane Shaw, from the Literacies and Education course, did their Praxis fieldwork in the ESL Program at ACLAMO.
- Spring 2006:
- Jenny Choi did her fieldwork for her Praxis III course Social Policy: The Debate About Whether EITC Alleviates Poverty at the Community Action Development Commission (CADCOM).
- Kathy Huynh, Sarah Joseph, and Lorin Jackson, from the Multicultural Education course, developed and facilitated an 8 week curriculum for The Chosen Ones youth group, which culminated in a community forum.
- Meryl Brady and Ippolita Di Paola, from the Multicultural Education course, worked in ACLAMO’s ESL program. Linda Rae Fiosca, from the same course, worked at Norristown High School.
- Fall 2005:
- Allison Frank and Camille Porreca from Changing Pedagogies in Math and Science Education did their fieldwork in Math classrooms at East Norristown Middle School. Ginger Kelly, from the same class, worked in a Science classroom at Whitehall Elementary School.
- Sarah Mackin did her fieldwork for Sociology of Gender at ACLAMO, leading a workshop on health issues for the ESL students.
- Carolyn Dahlgren, Diane Gibfried and Julia Eddy worked with Fortniter’s in connection with their course in Women’s Mental Health.
- Luz Martinez, Laura Severance and Rachel Freeland did their fieldwork for the Women’s Mental Health course at Why Not Prosper.
