Through individualized remedial instruction, certified instructional specialists work with students with learning difficulties, from preschool through college, in the areas of reading, spelling, written expression and mathematics. Consultation with parents and teachers is an integral component of these services. Twice a year, written reports for parents summarize materials used, progress made and areas needing further remediation.
Reading problems can be explored with a formal reading assessment. This testing will identify areas of strength and weakness, plus provide recommendations for remediation, accommodation and/or educational placement. Alternatively, a certified reading specialist can conduct a diagnostic reading consultation. This involves reviewing the results of educational testing carried out elsewhere and supplementing this with additional assessment in order to address the student's present and future needs.
Other educational support services offered at CSI include math assessments, instruction in study and organizational skills, test taking, writing remediation and SAT preparation. Additionally, during the summer months, CSI offers a summer reading program for children in the primary grades as well as workshops in writing, study skills and reading comprehension.
