Special Education Consultation

Parents can meet with a professional who will help them translate assessment findings into educational plans that will address their children's needs. The professional may observe the child in school and consult with her/his teachers to gather information that will help in the Individual Education Program (IEP) planning process or to determine whether IEPs are being implemented appropriately. At the parent’s request, the professional may also perform additional assessment of the child, including a full battery of tests, if necessary, to answer specific questions about the child’s functioning. The professional will accompany the parents to Multidisciplinary Team (MDT) and IEP meetings, mediations, or pre-hearing conferences to help them effectively articulate their goals for their child and build cooperative relationships with school personnel. Professionals are also available to appear as expert witnesses at due process hearings.
