The Summer Dance Study Grant, has been funded for the last decade by alumna, Edith Aviles de Kostes, and the Dance Program and is continuing to offer support to serious dancers with the help of artist and friend of the Program, Virginia Clark. It is designed to support, in part or in full, a student or students enrolled in a recognized summer dance technique/training program. Since the inception of the program in 2005, we have been able to assist two to three students each year in pursuing summer study. Students apply for this grant in early Spring.
Our students have studied at American Dance Festival, American Ballet Theater, Jacob's Pillow, Pro Danza Italia, Bill T. Jones Summer intensive, Urban Bush Women Summer Institute, Axis Dance Company's Integrated Abilities Program, David Parsons Summer Dance, Alvin Ailey Summer Intensive, The Hip Hop Conservatory of NYC, the Paul Taylor Summer Intensive, and Alonzo King/Lines Summer Program.
Beyond these grants for continuing study in dance technique, there is also a specific Summer Arts Internship that supports student proposals for projects or internships with an arts-related organization or initiative.
In addition, the Dean's Office Summer Funding program offers several general summer internships and research possibilities that are also open to proposals in the arts.
