Registering for Courses at Other Institutions

At Swarthmore

Students in good standing may take any course offered at Swarthmore College on a space-available basis; therefore, registration at Swarthmore does not begin until after Swarthmore's preregistration ends. Ordinarily, you will not include Swarthmore courses in your Bryn Mawr preregistration.

If you wish to take a course at Swarthmore, fill out a Swarthmore Registration Form available from the Bryn Mawr Dean's Office, then consult your dean and get his or her signature. Next, take the completed form to the Registrar's Office in Parrish, the main administrative building at Swarthmore. After you have gotten the necessary signature from the Swarthmore Registrar, return the original and the pink copy of this form to the Bryn Mawr Dean's Office. You will also be registering for the Swarthmore course at Swarthmore; the Swarthmore registrar's office will provide you with all necessary forms.

At the University of Pennsylvania

The registration process for Penn courses is very similar to the process for Swarthmore courses. However, there are important limits on what Penn courses a student may take. Eligible courses must be liberal arts courses, offered by the College of Arts and Sciences or the College of General Studies . They must be primarily intended for undergraduates. They cannot duplicate course offerings regularly available at Bryn Mawr or Haverford. No more than two Penn courses may be taken in any one semester. Be aware that Penn does not operate on the same academic calendar as Bryn Mawr. Students are responsible for knowing and abiding by all Penn deadlines.
