| The purpose of the grant is to "send for at least six months, a Bryn Mawr graduate to a university or college in Commonwealth Africa (or a former British colony in Africa ) to teach or to study, with a view to contributing to mutual understanding of the educational institutions concerned, and the furtherance of scholarship generally at that level." |

| Elizabeth Gray Vining Scholarship |
| The scholarship is for academic study or research in Japan for up to ten months, or for those who wish to have from three to six months direct contact with Japanese culture. A basic knowledge of Japanese is desirable, but there may be exceptions. |
